The donation which was made to the hospice last week, was a result of wonderful community spirit. An initial £500 was raised through a fundraising barbecue this summer organised by members of St Mary’s Lodge in Melton. This amount was kindly matched by the lodge itself to make £1000. The total was then further boosted by an exceptionally generous individual donor who has been an active Freemason for over 60 years, taking the overall contribution to more than £4,000.

The Freemasons is one of the oldest social and charitable organisations in the world, with over 170,000 members throughout England and Wales and the Melton lodge have been longstanding supporters of the Stathern-based charity for many years. Their latest donation is gratefully received at a time when funding is particularly challenging for hospices across the UK.
Dora Walls (Fundraising Lead at Dove Cottage Day Hospice) said:
“Support like this is invaluable to us. With less than 4% of our costs funded by the government, we are heavily reliant on donations from the community to ensure that we can continue providing the very best care, comfort and support for the families who use our services. We are incredibly grateful to the Freemasons for their continued support and generosity over so many years. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported the summer barbecue, to the lodge for matchfunding the fundraising efforts, and to our very generous individual donor who helped make this fantastic total possible. This latest donation will make a genuine difference to the hospice, helping us to provide important equipment for our patients whilst also supporting essential improvements to our building”.
Dove Cottage Day Hospice relies on the generosity of its supporters, local organisations and community fundraisers to help maintain and develop its services. In addition to financial donations, the charity rely heavily on volunteers gifting their time to ensure the hospice can continue to make a positive difference to patients and their families.
