Your time makes a real difference
Dove Cottage volunteers play a vital role in the smooth running of the hospice. Around 120 people give their time, expertise, and commitment to support our work, helping us create a warm, welcoming environment for guests, families, carers, visitors, and supporters.
The time given by volunteers saves the hospice around £250,000 each year. More importantly, it helps make Dove Cottage feel personal, friendly, and connected to the local community.
Ways you could help
There are different ways to volunteer, depending on your interests, availability, and experience. Full training is given, and we will talk with you about the role that feels right.
Volunteer driving
Support guests by helping them travel safely to and from Dove Cottage. Mileage expenses are paid for hospice drivers.
Shop volunteering
Join one of our friendly charity shop teams and help with serving customers, sorting donations, preparing stock, and keeping the shops welcoming.
Fundraising and events
Help with community events, fundraising activities, collections, or behind-the-scenes support that keeps Dove Cottage visible and active locally.
What to expect as a volunteer
You do not need to have volunteered with a hospice before. We will talk with you about your interests, availability, and any experience you would like to bring, then help you find a suitable role.
Some volunteers like to help at the same time each week, while others prefer to support us occasionally when a need arises. We have days and hours to suit different circumstances.
Full training is provided, and you will be supported by the Dove Cottage team throughout your time with us.
